Communications Specialist


About this role

We’re hiring a Communications Specialist for our client to join their team. This is a 9-month contract position that will allow the opportunity to put your knowledge to work every day on a variety of high value tasks.


  • Delivers communications materials and content for communications channels across North America
  • Contributes expertise to the development and execution of communications strategies and plans
  • Partners with business leaders and subject matter experts to develop content for communication purposes
  • Executes local leadership communications and profile opportunities
  • Collates input and contributes to the development of input to Business and Company-wide communications
  • Contributes expertise in the development of external speeches and presentations and any required approvals
  • Develops communications to support the issues management process and stakeholder engagement strategy and plan
  • Governs the application of the brand standards and executes key local sponsorships
  • Executes against the crisis communications plan as required
  • Monitors traditional and social media and develops content for digital communication channels
  • Regionally deliver company-wide communications and strategy in collaboration with Corporate Headquarters



  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations or English
  • Master’s, MBA or advanced degrees preferred
  • 5 + years’ experience in communications or public relations, ideally in an international corporation that requires cross-cultural collaboration
  • Deep interest and experience in new and emerging technologies – adept at social media strategy and implementation
  • Experience in stakeholder management and communications planning and ability to collaborate with senior stakeholders across multiple sites / global locations
  • Strong project management skills to meet deadlines, establish clear priorities quickly and bring projects to completion on time and within budget
  • Experience in speech writing and gathering research and support for content
  • Understanding of Corporate Affairs and its role in the management of the Company’s license to operate
  • Ability to understand broader Corporate Affairs strategy and ensure deliverables are aligned to this strategy
  • Knowledge and understanding of the mining and resources industry is desired
  • Superior communications and facilitation skills
  • Ability to effectively engage colleagues at all levels of the Company
  • High level of attention to detail
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Flexibility to achieve project objectives
  • Pragmatic and professional in nature, willing to seize an opportunity and roll up his/her sleeves to get the job done
  • High learning agility – capacity to seek out and apply innovative approaches
  • Commitment to high ethical standards
