About this role

Responsibilities

  • Assist in developing and implementing test plans, procedures, and requirements verification tracking in areas relating to survivability including but not limited to vulnerability and recoverability
    • Participate in analysis and definition of system requirements which impact on the ability of the project design to achieve project defined margins
    • Participate in the development of design deliverables
    • Assist with facilitating and overseeing subcontractor development of design deliverables
    • Support technical design reviews in respect to survivability design aspects
    • Participate in analysis and definition of system requirements which impact on the ability of the project design to achieve classification society design approvals and certificates from certification authorities
    • Participate in technical negotiations with equipment and material vendors in respect to classification societies approvals and certification from certifying authorities
    • Support the review of vendor design products and vendor information
    • Address risk items relating to the Naval Architecture Team areas of responsibility, including identification and risk mitigation planning
    • Participate in the development of project processes and procedures related to the project Naval Architecture Team activities
    • Propose design and process improvements related to vessel predictability, shipyard safety, and production performance where applicable
    • Participate in Integrated Product Teams in support of the development of the project design
    • Develop and foster client, subcontractor, and classification society relationships
    • Support a culture of teamwork, enthusiasm and proactive behavior within the Platform Systems Team

    About you

    Requirements

    • Degree in relevant engineering discipline with five plus years of ship design experience.
      • Meets the pre-requisites to eventually achieve Professional Engineering status with Engineers Nova Scotia.
      • or RCN Hull Technician QL6B qualified with previous operational experience as a Damage Control Petty Officer (DCPO)
      • or equivalent Damage Control Officer position from alternate Navy
    • Experience incorporating vulnerability reduction features such as separation, redundancy, armoring, etc. into marine systems and platform design holistically
      • Experience with damage mitigation concepts related to Chemical Biological Radiological Nuclear (CBRN) defense, ballistic penetration, underwater shock, air blast, collision, grounding, or other damage events
      • Experience with Modelling and Simulation (M&S) for ship vulnerability and recoverability, performing associated data analysis for design improvement recommendations, and/or implementation of results into live damage control exercises
      • Strong understanding of damage control doctrine in the event of shipboard flooding and fire
      • Experience with requirement development and/or maturation related to ship survivability
      • Working knowledge of naval architecture, marine systems, and platform design concepts
      • Experience working on naval ship design, commercial shipbuilding, or other large military procurement program
      • Experience working with classification society rules and classification societies to achieve plan approval for vessel designs and products
      • Experience preparing design products for a ship design or major ship upgrade design program
      • Strong personal time management skills
